Tetra Pak heir describes moment wife died after years of cocaine abuse

Te prada tra Pak heir Hans Rausing has described how he watched his wife take her last breath before her eyes dimmed and she died following years of drug abuse.

The billionaire said that he desperately tried in vain to wake Eva after she collapsed in the bedroom of their five storey west London home in May.

Her body lay undiscovered for two months before she was found still clutching a homemade foil smoking pipe, under a pile of bin bags and duvets at the five storey west London prada home she shared with her husband.

The 49 year old had suffered a longstanding heart condition that had almost certainly been caused by injecting hard drugs, Westminster Coroner’s Court heard.

Her husband, also 49, was given handed a 10 month jail term, suspended for two years, in August after pleading guilty to failing to arrange a lawful burial.

Both husband and wife had been teetotal following a long battle with drugs, but began a downward spiral after Eva drank champagne to celebrate New Year’s Eve 1999.

In a statement read to her inquest, Hans described his hazy memories of the moment she died earlier this year.

He said: “I got up to go to the bathroom. I was shaving, when I think I heard Eva slip off the bed.

“She was lying sideways, and her face was resting on the pillow.

“I heard her exhale and then she did not move at all.

“I went to her and grabbed her hands, and tried to pull her up I shouted ‘Eva, Eva, Eva’.

“I turned her towards me and saw her eyes had dimmed. I knew she was dead I was absolutely certain she was dead.”

Hans, whose family is the 12th richest in Britain with a fortune estimated at 4.3 billion, said he found it im prada possible to cope with the loss.

He said: “I could not look at her.

“I did not feel able to conf prada ront the reality of her death.

“Following her death I did not act rationally. I tried to carry on as if her death had not happened I could not face the fact she was dead.”

The packaging magnate, whose family’s wealth was made through the Tetra Pak empire, did not attend the inquest but was represented by barrister Alexander Cameron QC, the Prime Minister’s older brother.

Crack addict billionaire Hans Kristian Rausing is having food delivered from his favourite hotel. to the drug rehab clinic where he was sent by a judge.

The Tetra Pak heir, who last week received a 10 month suspended jail term for keeping his wife’s body at their home for two months after she died, didn’t like the menu offered by nurses so has been allowed to order in his own cuisine.

Each evening at 6pm, a chauffeur collects dinner, wrapped in silver foil, from a five star hotel and delivers it to Rausing, 49, at the Capio Nightingale clinic in West London, where he is being treated for drug addiction.

Last week the 1,000 a d prada ay driver, also believed to be his personal assistant, was on hand to take gaunt looking prada Rausing, the country’s 12th richest man, for a drive round the block in a Mercedes.

He made regular stops so that his employer could enjoy the fresh air.

Rausing is also believed to go for regular walks.

Last week he avoided being sent to jail despite the judge saying he used “deceit and deliberation” to hide wife Eva’s corpse. When confronted, he said: “I know it sounds selfish but I just didn’t want her to leave.”

He had hidden the decomposing body under a pile of bin bags and clothes at their 70million mansion in London’s Chelsea, then sprinkled the corpse with deodorising powder to mask the growing stench.

Rausing, worth 4.3billion, faced a maximum sentence of life imprisonment for preventing the lawful burial of his wife but instead was ordered to attend the private hospital for two years.

Judge Richard McGregor Johnson told him: “In prada carrying out your intentions, you acted with deceit and deliberation, equipping yourself with items to try to prolong the act of concealment.”

In a statement to police, which was read to the court, Rausing said: prada “I am devastated by the death of my beloved wife of 19 years.

“I do not have a coherent recollection of the events leading up to and since Eva’s death, save to assure you I have never wished her or done her any harm.

“I tried to carry on as if her death had not happened. I batted away enquiries about her. I believe in the period since she died I have suffered some form of breakdown.”
